What Australia told us – The Disability Royal Commission launches national information sessions

The Disability Royal Commission has launched national information sessions What Australia Told Us! to share the major themes heard from people with disability and the community throughout the course of our inquiry.

Since our establishment in April 2019 the Royal Commission has heard from the community in various ways including:

  • 32 Public hearings

  • over 1,500 Private sessions

  • close to 8,000 submissions

  • over 17,000 phone inquiries

  • over 700 engagements across Australia

  • published 14 Issues papers and received over 700 responses to those Issues papers

  • published 18 Research Reports and seven Progress Reports.

The information sessions will launch on 16 March 2023 in Brisbane and will travel to all major capital cities across Australia. Register for your free tickets for the Brisbane event.

Throughout the inquiry, the Royal Commission has emphasised the need for community engagement and participation to help in shaping its findings and recommendations. The What Australia Told Us! information sessions are an initiative aimed at sharing what we heard.

The Final Report, which is due to be delivered to the Governor-General by 29 September 2023 will contain detailed information about experiences of violence, abuse neglect, and exploitation of people with disabilities across Australia.

While the information sessions are not able to address the findings and recommendations that will be presented to the Governor-General, it is an opportunity for people to connect with the Royal Commission and learn about its work.

The information sessions are open to everyone and provide a safe and inclusive space for people to attend, learn and ask questions.

Auslan Interpreters will be present at the event and anyone who requests additional accessibility requirements can make this request as part of the online registration process.

We encourage everyone to attend the information session in their nearest location and be a part of this important event.

Visit the Royal Commission’s website for further information on the event and registration.
