Final report to be delivered to Governor-General 10am Thursday

The Chair of the Royal Commission and Commissioners will deliver the Royal Commission’s Final report to the Governor-General at 10am AEST on Thursday 28 September 2023.

All Commissioners will be present to hand over the report to the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) at Government House in Canberra.

The Australian Government will table the Final report in the Australian Parliament at a later time.

The Final report will be published on the Royal Commission’s website after it has been tabled. The Royal Commission has no control over the tabling process, including timing.

The Royal Commission’s Final report is the culmination of a four-and-a-half-year inquiry. It will contain recommendations aimed at creating a more inclusive society that supports the independence of people with disability and their right to live free from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Since it was established on 4 April 2019, the Royal Commission has:

  • held 32 public hearings with evidence from 837 witnesses

  • received 7,944 submissions, 55% received from people with disability and 29% from family members

  • held 1,785 private sessions, where over 60% of participants were people with disability

  • conducted more than 700 community engagement events

  • produced 14 issues papers, with 710 responses

  • received 16,940 enquiries via phone and email by 31 December 2022

  • held 12 policy roundtables or workshops with stakeholders

  • published 28 research reports.
