The Royal Commission has today released an Overview of responses to the Experiences of culturally and linguistically diverse people with disability Issues Paper.

Business leaders from ASX 100 companies, the public sector, unions, regulators and legal centres will appear at a five day hearing on employment as the Disability Royal Commission examines why Australia’s employment of people with disability is so low.

The Royal Commission has released its report following Public hearing 7, which looked at the barriers young people with disability face in accessing safe, quality and inclusive education in mainstream schools. The focus of the evidence at Public hearing 7 was the government school systems in New South Wales and Queensland.

The next hearing of the Disability Royal Commission will examine the extent to which the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is yet to be incorporated into Australian domestic law.  The hearing will also consider how the CRPD can be used to enhance the human rights of people with disability.

Today the Royal Commission publishes two new reports providing historic insights into the experiences of people with disability in Australia.

The Final Commissioners’ Report of Public hearing 12: The experiences of people with disability, in the context of the Australian Government’s approach to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout has been tabled in parliament today after being presented to the Governor-General.

A report commissioned by the Disability Royal Commission has found some police responses to people with disability are inadequate and can be ‘damaging’ to their well-being.

In a two day hearing commencing on Wednesday 13 October, the Disability Royal Commission will be hearing from expert witnesses and disability advocates on how and why 40% of women with disability have experienced physical violence and are also twice as likely to experience sexual violence as women without disabilities.

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability will hold an additional day of Public hearing 14 on Thursday 30th September 2021 commencing at 10.00am (AEST).
