The Royal Commission into violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation of people with disability has recently received its 5,000th submission following a significant increase in submissions this year.

In a five day hearing commencing on Monday 11 July, the Disability Royal Commission will examine the operation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in remote and very remote communities.

Today the Disability Royal Commission releases its report, ‘Preventing and responding to violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation in disability services (South Australia)’, which considers the evidence given by witnesses during its fourteenth Public hearing, held in Adelaide from 7 to 11 June 2021.

Public hearing 24 will commence on Monday 6 June in Canberra for five days. The hearing will examine the experiences of children and young people in different primary and high school education settings, including what are commonly referred as special schools with a focus on Western Australia and South Australia.

In a five-day hearing commencing on Monday 16 May, the Royal Commission will examine the role and responsibilities of the Australian Foundation for Disability (Afford) to safeguard participants in their day programs from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

A research report commissioned by the Disability Royal Commission has found leadership by people with disability must be visible in order to change community attitudes and behaviour towards people with disability.

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability will hold an additional day of Public hearing 20 on Thursday 28 April 2022 commencing 10:00am (AEST).

Employees working in Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs) will appear at a three day hearing to detail their experiences as the Royal Commission examines whether ADE’s contribute to, or prevent, violence, abuse, neglect or exploitation of people with disability.

The Royal Commission has released a Commissioner’s Report on Public hearing 13, which examined the prevention of, and responses to, violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation in supported disability accommodation operated by Sunnyfield Disability Services (Sunnyfield).

In a five-day hearing commencing on Monday 28 March in Hobart, the Disability Royal Commission will hear from advocates and women with disability who are victim-survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence and abuse.
