Public hearing 29: Experiences of violence against, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse communities

Witnesses

We’re holding a public hearing starting Monday 24 October looking at people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

The hearing will also focus on the experiences of the Deaf community – like what it was like growing up Deaf or Deafblind, and going to school.

Over the first two days witnesses will share their experiences, including people who are Deaf and one person who is Deafblind.

Some people, who we call ‘expert witnesses’ will give evidence from a professional perspective. They’ll cover different topics like Auslan, Deaf history, Deaf community, the role of Deaf organisations, educational models, and the role of interpreters.

Witnesses include:

  • Jen Blyth from Deaf Australia

  • Brett Casey from Deaf Connect

  • Rebecca Adam from Access Plus

  • Dr Breda Carty AO who is an academic

and others.

You can find a list of the witnesses who will appear at this hearing on our website. Search ‘Public hearing 29’.
