The Disability Royal Commission thanks Commissioner Roslyn Atkinson AO for her contribution and service
The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability wishes to thank The Honourable Roslyn Atkinson AO for her outstanding contribution to the work of the Royal Commission.
Commissioner Atkinson was appointed a Commissioner of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability by Amended Letters Patent on 13 September 2019. Commissioner Atkinson has decided to step down from her role as Commissioner for personal reasons.
Chair of the Royal Commission, the Hon. Ronald Sackville AO QC said the Royal Commission has benefited enormously from Commissioner Atkinson’s work.
“On behalf of all Commissioners I wish to express our deep appreciation to Commissioner Atkinson for her invaluable contributions to the work of the Royal Commission and our regret that she is leaving us. Commissioner Atkinson’s vast knowledge and experience as a practising barrister and judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland, her engagement over many years with people with disability and with First Nations people and her familiarity with complex policy and rights issues have delivered significant insights to the work of the Royal Commission. She has contributed tirelessly to all facets of the Royal Commission’s many activities.”
“I am particularly grateful to Commissioner Atkinson for her unstinting support and encouragement to me as the Chair of the Royal Commission.”
“My colleagues and I extend our very best wishes to Commissioner Atkinson for the future.”
The Royal Commission’s schedule of public hearings and other work will continue as planned.
