Aunty Louisa Uta, member of the Elders Living with Disability Australia (ELDA), First Peoples Disability Network Australia
Aunty Louisa Uta is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman and is an elder in her community. For 35 years she has been a full-time carer for her mother who is in a wheelchair and her son who has cerebral palsy.
In 2015 Aunty Louisa was a member of Carers Queensland’s Reconciliation Action Plan Steering Committee. The RAP was launched and commitments were held for the 2016-2019 period.
Aunty Louisa is doing what many First Nations people are still to achieve, to self-manage her son’s NDIS package. As a highly regarded elder she is a member of FPDA elders group ELDA and is also a panel member on Every Australian Counts.
