The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability is holding community forums in South Australia in November 2019.
There will be three forums – two in Adelaide on 12 November, and one in Gawler on 14 November.
Community forums are a key way people with disability and others in the disability community can directly share their personal experiences of violence, abuse, neglect or exploitation with the Royal Commission.
The first community forum took place in Townsville in September 2019. Opening that forum, Commissioner Andrea Mason OAM told participants:
Your stories, knowledge and ideas will help inform and guide us in our task and we thank you for your willingness to engage with the Royal Commission and participate in this critical and potentially transformative work.
Forum attendees can register their interest in speaking to Commissioners publicly at the forum, and Commission staff will be on hand to talk one on one with anyone who would like to.
Auslan interpreters and live captioning will be available.
The Royal Commission strongly recommends people register in advance, as spaces will be limited by venue size.
The Royal Commission will hold be holding three community forums in Tasmania in November (details to be announced), and will announce community forums in other locations around the country in due course.
Visit the Disability Royal Commission website for more information about community forums and making submissions.
